Purchasing ITCS Services

Funding and Payment Options

All BCP-eligible people may purchase computing services beyond what is provided at no charge in the Basic Computing Package. If you are not eligible for the package, yet are affiliated with the University of Michigan, some services may be purchased or funded for you by your department. Funding and payment options vary according to your University affiliation:

Students

Charged-for computing services used by students are billed directly to their University Student Account. (This is the same account through which tuition and other fees are billed.) Charges appear on the statement as "Additional Computing Services."

Doctoral candidate and pre-candidate students who are not enrolled for two or more consecutive terms and who want to continue using the Basic Computing Package can contact the ITCS Accounts Office to request a service extension and make payment arrangements.

In some cases, departmental funds may be available to pay for selected computing services for students. Check with the account administrator in your school or college. If you are uncertain of who to contact within your unit, the ITCS Accounts Office can help you find the appropriate person.

Faculty and Staff

Eligible faculty and regular staff receive all the services included in the Basic Computing Package. Funding for additional or charged-for services is determined by the account administrator in your school or college.

Most University of Michigan Ann Arbor colleges, schools, and units receive Departmental Allocation funds. These funds are distributed to units once a year and can be used to purchase computing services according to unit priorities. If you are uncertain of whom to contact within your unit, the ITCS Accounts Office can help you find the appropriate person.

An authorized signer within a department can also arrange for charges to be applied to a University account. At the end of the month, the charges will be billed to the University account. The charges will appear in that University account's Service Unit Billing Breakout.

Temporary Staff and Visitors

Temporary staff (who are not students), visiting fellows, and other guests of the University should first talk to a manager in their department about making arrangements for the computing services they need. In some cases, access to these services will be handled within the department; otherwise, individuals will be directed to the ITCS Accounts Office to make other arrangements.

Alumni

Alumni can contact the ITCS Accounts Office for information about subscribing to U-M Online. U-M Online allows you to continue e-mail with your @umich.edu address, keep files in Institutional File System (IFS) space, including personal web pages, and continue using conferencing. The service also provides access to licensed software.
