Campus Computing Sites


 

What Campus Computing Sites are available for use?


General Use Sites:

There are fourteen Campus Computing Sites available for general use. Eleven sites are on Central Campus and three are on North Campus. All Campus Computing Sites are open to University of Michigan students, faculty and staff.

The general use Campus Computing Sites on Central Campus are Angell Hall Courtyard, Caident, Learning Resource Center (LRC), School of Education (SEB), School of Natural Resources (SNRE), School of Nursing (NIB), School of Public Health (SPH), Shapiro Undergraduate Library, Michigan Union, and West Hall. The general use Campus Computing Sites on North Campus are Art & Architecture, the Media Union, and the School of Music.

Specialty Sites:

  • Center For Statistical Consultation and Research (CSCAR)
    The CSCAR computing site is home to a service and research unit of the University of Michigan. Its staff provides statistical services to faculty, primary researchers, graduate students and staff of the University.
  • Adaptive Technology Computing Site (ATCS)
    The University of Michigan Information Technology Central Services (ITCS), Shapiro Undergraduate Library and the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) jointly sponsor an Adaptive Technology Computing Site (ATCS) for use by students, faculty and staff. The site is an ergo-assistive work-study environment designed to accommodate the information technology needs of physically, visually, learning, and ergonomically impaired individuals.
  • New Media Center (NMC)
    The New Media Center is a site with resources to help students complete multimedia class projects. The NMC offers high-end multimedia computers with current software, scanners, MIDI stations, and personal studios for digitizing and editing audio and video. The NMC includes a computer classroom that can be reserved for a single session or for an entire semester and also serves as an open lab for walk-in use.
  • Student Organization Resource Center (SORC)
    The SORC has 5 "Creation Stations" available for student organization access. These stations can be used for hands-on print and web graphic design with easy-to-use software. These stations also have Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet access.
  • Michigan League Cyber Lounge
    The Michigan League Cyber Lounge is a cool place to play your favorite computer games, e.g., Quake III, Unreal Tournament, The Sims, Diablo and others. The Cyber Lounge has 6 e-mail stations and 18 computer stations (6 Mac and 12 PC) for games and internet with comfortable chairs and a cozy atmosphere. Open daily from 7am - 11pm.

    ResComp Sites:

    Residents of University Housing may also have access to Residential Computing Sites (ResComp Sites). Each residence hall has a computing site that is equipped with computers connected to the same campus network, printers, a scanner, and software as in Campus Computing Sites.

    What other computing sites are available for use?

  • Furstenberg Student Study Center (FSSC)
    The FSSC is only available to medical students 24 hr/day by card reader. In addition to a small computer cluster and express e-mail stations, it includes a mailbox and information area, bulletin boards for student groups, a large informal lounge, and a quiet study area.
  • Computer Aided Engineering Network (CAEN)
    CAEN provides access to several sites on both Central and North campuses for use by individuals with CAEN accounts only. CAEN workstations are also available in the following Campus Computing Sites: Bursley Hall, Couzens Hall, Markley Hall, Michigan Union, the Media Union, Mosher Jordan Hall, South Quad Hall, the Shapiro Undergraduate Second Floor site (Rm 2054), Shapiro Undergraduate Library Lower Level, and West Quad Hall.
  • Business School
    The Business School student lab is open 120 hours per week. The lab is only available to Business School students (and to other University students enrolled in Business School classes). A lab manager ensures that the lab is running smoothly. Student consultants are available to provide support and answer questions.
  • Law School
    The Law School Student Computer Lab is available to Law students only. The site provides access to several different workstations and software packages.
  • School of Social Work (SSW)
    The SSW library space houses the Comprehensive Information Resource Center (CIRC), which serves as a computing lab for the School of Social Work. There are 45 full-featured workstations and a computer classroom in this area, which provide access to statistical software, word processing, spreadsheets, and other information resources. There are 11 express, e-mail only stations, and one express, printing-only station, too. A uniqname is required to use CIRC workstations. Access to these computers may be restricted to social work students at certain times. There are 5 additional computers that provide access to library-related resources; students not affiliated with the School of Social Work may use these computers.
