Outbound Caller ID Available on Faculty, Staff Phones

April 10, 2008

Outbound Caller ID is now an available feature on most University of Michigan faculty and staff telephones on the Ann Arbor, Flint, and Dearborn campuses. This new feature, which has been requested by many, is available on an individual line basis. It allows your U-M 10-digit telephone number to be displayed to persons you are calling off campus, including cell phones. Providing caller ID can help make voice communication friendlier by letting people know who is calling and making it easier for them to get back in touch.

The feature also allows you to return to the generic display on any specific call by entering *67 before the call is placed. By dialing *67 then 9 and the number you wish to reach, your Outbound Caller ID will be "University of Michigan 734-647-0000." The actual text displayed to the person receiving the call will depend upon the telephone service they use. Some services display no text or a non-descriptive phrase such as "Unknown Caller."

Outbound Caller ID is not available on University Housing student residence telephones or on Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephones on the Flint and Dearborn campuses.

There is no charge to add Outbound Caller ID. Orders for this and other U-M telephone features can be placed by Department ID Managers (or their proxies) through the ITCom Online Service Center.
